My Minimalist Pregnancy Buys
When I found out I was pregnant I knew I would do it minimally, the same goes for when the baby arrives and the same way I generally like to live my life.
With as minimal as possible and to spend more on items that are well-made by good brands, high quality and that last.
I hate consumerism and I hate ‘stuff’, having excess items of unnecessary gadgets or buying things because you are told you ‘need’ them.
Like I do with all my purchases, I think ahead, and only buy items I know can be used again and again for multiple functions.
I wanted to spend money on items that could be used post-pregnancy, not just for pregnancy.
There were a few things that we’re really supportive of that I will share below
So I hope you enjoy my recommendations x
I chose a pillow that I knew would fit in with my home afterwards as a bolster along my sofa/day bed.
The material is so soft and has been extremely supportive when sleeping at night. It also doubles as a nursing pillow when the baby arrives (nursing pillow inside). You can change the knots at the end to make it tighter or looser.
Jojo Maman Bebe Maternity leggings
I knew I wouldn’t buy specific maternity clothes, although I have to say a good pair of maternity leggings to go over the bump is so so nice and supportive, especially if you are having a winter baby and want to wrap up warm.
These are the softest leggings I came across. It was hard to find maternity leggings that were cotton, most seemed to be polyester, which are horrid because they make you sweat, and you are most likely going to feel quite hot in your pregnancy already.
I will also use these postpartum and the extra material rolls down and gives extra support around the hips.
Jojo Maman Bebe Maternity Bump Band
I loved this band, and on the days I didn’t wear it, I could feel a huge difference. I probably didn’t wear it until about 6 months pregnant, but the baby was sitting very low and it was uncomfortable to walk around for too long. This band just pulled my belly up slightly, which meant I could go longer without needing a wee every 15 minutes and walk around without getting aches. You can wear a scarf/pashmina around your waist, I do this at home sometimes, which also feels super nice.
This item probably can’t be used for anything else, possibly a kidney warmer in winter, or I will pass it on to a pregnant friend.
I chose a bra that was going to be comfortable and supportive for my growing boobs (I went from a B to a DD quite quickly) that would double as a nursing bra and also be used as a yoga/sports bra after breastfeeding.
Other items I loved:
Thick warm socks, it’s important to keep your feet, ankles and lower back (kidneys) warm in pregnancy, to retain your qi…vital energy.
Cashmere trousers (I found some second-hand ones on Vinted, which were amazing to keep me and baby cosy in the winter).
An oversized coat jacket, to fit your bump into, I bought Skall Studios - Monica Jacket.
Oversized second-hand jumpers, I also already had an oversized knit from Babaa.
Reuseable cotton pads - I already had some reusable period pads and period knickers, which are useful because no one talk about how much discharge/cervical mucus you get in your knickers in pregnancy. Dame are a good brand, and Thinx, but there are so many.
Loose/stretchy dresses to go over bump.
Long blouses/shirts, especially with buttons as will be useful later too for breastfeeding. I found plenty of second-hand ones, cut-out/off ugly tags and tea-stained some for fun.
