Kitchen spices for Digestive upset
Gorgeous SPICES for ‘Gut Health’
Do you ever feel a little heavy after a meal? Bloated?
Need some assistance?
& are unsure what to reach for or can’t get hold of some herbs easily?
Then SPICES can be a wonderful aid.
Most of us have spices readily available in the kitchen draw that we use for cooking. ….But let’s not forget that spices are just the seed, fruit, root, rhizome or bark of a plant.
They are Herbal Medicines.
This is exactly why spices were traditional added to food & drinks, to aid digestion as well as offer beautiful flavour from those delicious volatile oils.
A good example is traditional Indian cooking created in Ayurvedic philosophy to ensure ‘Food as Medicine’, as well as warming drinks before and after a meal such as Indian chai & golden turmeric milks. Taking medicine in food & drinks feels the most natural to me.
The aromatic seeds contain phytochemicals…volatile oils (the gorgeous smell) which aid digestive processes, useful in; poor appetite, indigestion, bloating, flatulence (wind down), burping (wind up), nausea, painful trapped wind & stomach spasm.
A great way to take these spices is in your food, but you can also make a tea if you experience any of the symptoms above, especially after a meal.
I choose 1 teaspoon of spice - 1 cup of hot water (250ml ish) leave for 20 minutes.
of a mix of:
CARDAMOM SEED POD
CINNAMON POWDER or BARK
FENNEL SEED
CORIANDER SEED
ONE STAR ANISE SEED
⥁ You can choose a mix of all the spices or just one, whatever your preference is.
⥁ Ensure to cover in a tea pot or flask so the previous volatile oils don’t escape in the steam.
⥁ I tend to make 1 Litre (to 1 tablespoon of spices) into a flask, leave overnight to infuse and drink throughout the next day instead of water, especially in the winter, a warm soothing tea is much more appealing to me than cold water.
